Congratulations to University of Virginia Amherst Dialysis in Amherst, Virginia, winner of the 2010 ESRD Patient Safety Improvement Award! UVA Amherst Dialysis' best practice addressed improving hand hygiene and adherence to procedures and reducing patient falls. As a result of new policies, UVA Amherst Dialysis has seen a reduction in the number of MRSA and VRE positive patients by more than 50 percent as well as a reduction in falls. They have seen an increase in availability of medication information and patient compliance with the exercise program.

Professionals who submit their leading practices on the Keeping Kidney Patients Safe web site will be considered for RPA's ESRD Patient Safety Improvement Award. The awardees will be selected by a multi-disciplinary committee comprised of physicians, patients and other members of the renal health care team and will be honored at our 2011 Annual Meeting in Baltimore in March.
