Keeping Kidney Patients Safe provides information and best practices to prevent the occurrence of the Five Adverse Patient Safety Events as identified by patient and professional surveys and also assists nephrology professionals in meeting the quality assessment and performance improvement (QAPI) requirements outlined in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Conditions for Coverage for End Stage Renal Disease Facilities.

Starting November 1, VA Dialysis Directors will be required to use the Redsense alarm for all patients with needle access undergoing hemodialysis outside of the dialysis clinic area, including in-hospital wards or ICUs. Furthermore, the Redsense alarm may also be used on patients identified by dialysis staff at risk of a Venous Needle Dislodgement.
